ChatGPT is OpenAI's cloud service. You chat in web/app, can build custom GPTs, browse, generate images, use plug-ins. Strengths: convenience, image generation, broad accessibility. Weak: no daemon, no messaging integration, everything goes via OpenAI servers.

OpenClaw: local multi-channel agent

OpenClaw runs on your machine or server. Data goes to OpenAI/Anthropic only when a skill explicitly calls a cloud LLM — and you can control that per skill. Sensitive stays local (Llama via Ollama).

Privacy

Biggest difference here. ChatGPT data goes wholesale to OpenAI. ChatGPT Enterprise lets you set data retention to 0, Plus does not. OpenClaw lets you decide per skill: cloud (with processor agreement) or local.
